Today marks the 30th anniversary of Lou Reed’s The Blue Mask, which Rob Sheffield says is the rocker’s solo masterpiece. “It’s one of the toughest, truest, funniest albums about husbandhood ever made,” says Sheffield. “Lou’s fallen in love, but he finds it just scares the hell out of him. As he sings, ‘Things are never good / Things go from bad to weird.’” Above, you can see a video of Reed performing the record’s title track in 2000.
